Previously known as the IMC Rating, the IR(R) allows PPL licence holders to operate in IMC conditions within the United Kingdom, outside controlled Class A airspace. The IR(R) rating involves 15 hours of flight training, 29 hours of ground school, one written exam, and a flight test.
